Harry is the "spare" to his brother Prince William, heir to the throne of England. Once known as the "The Happy Prince" for always smiling, lately Prince Harry seems to have taken the place in the tabloids formerly occupied by his deceased mother, Diana, Princess of Wales. Harry was eight when his parents separated, and 12 when his mother was killed in a car crash. There have long been whispers that he is not, in fact, the son of Prince Charles, but of his mother's lover, the "love rat" James Hewitt. Both Hewitt and Diana stated that they didn't meet until after Harry's birth, but his red hair and small nose are unlike those of the Windsors.

At 17, Harry admitted to his father that he had indulged in underaged drinking binges and had experimented with marijuana. He and his father toured a drug treatment facility to see up close the dangers of drug use. Ordinarily cause for expulsion from Eton school, administrators shelved their "zero tolerance" policy due to Harry's parentage. Criminal charges for the marijuana use were considered by the police but not brought up.

Prince Harry, like his mother, was not academically gifted. He graduated from Eton with poor grades in his A levels, which determine the ability of the student to go on to further studies. During Harry's gap year, one year off before beginning his higher education, he went first to Australia and worked as a jackaroo. He also worked at an orphanage in Lesotho and made a video, which aired on British television, about the problem of AIDS in Africa. He has said that he would like to follow in his mother's philanthropic footsteps.

In the fall of 2004, an inebriated Harry was surrounded by paparazzi and got into a scuffle with a photographer. The palace stated that Harry was hit on the nose with a camera before lunging at the paparazzo. Photographs showed a red-faced Harry being restrained by one of his guards, as he yelled "Why are you doing this, why don't you just leave me alone?" The photographer suffered a cut lip, and said the attack was unprovoked, but did not press charges.

Shortly afterward, Prince Harry flew to Argentina in November of 2004 to play polo and see his girlfriend Chelsy Davy. Davy's father, also named Charles, is apparently associated with the dictator of Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe. Harry reportedly drank to excess during his stay, and caused security headaches by leaving the Davys' ranch without warning the local government of his whereabouts, leading to frantic but unfounded worries that he had been kidnapped.

In January 2005, Harry attended a "Colonials and Natives" costume party dressed in an SS uniform from the Afrika Corps during World War II. The timing was particularly poor, shortly before the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. In addition to being politically incorrect, the costume was actually incorrect -- the Afrika Corps did not wear the Nazi swastika, and the swastika on Harry's armband was backwards. The Royal Family apologized for Harry's indiscretion.
